Whakataukī

Kā puna hauaitu, kā puna karikari, kā puna waimarie,

On behalf of the New Zealand Principals’ Federation and the 2017 Conference Committee, we invite you to join us at the 2017 NZPF Conference scheduled for Queenstown from 19 – 22 September next year.

We are bringing you three days of learning and inspiration with the conference title ‘Remarkably Different’ referencing the stunning physical backdrop of The Remarkables Range. It also signals the intention of the NZPF Executive to align this annual and pre-eminent professional development opportunity more closely to the strategic aims and objectives of the organisation.

The whakatauki chosen for this conference also refers to its location on the shores of Lake Wakatipu. It could also be seen as a metaphor for the difficult yet rewarding moments often facing principals in the job they do. In this context it is important that principals remember to look after themselves and their staff, so the emphasis in 2017 will be on principal leadership and hauora.

The structure of the conference will be that of 45-minute plenary sessions throughout each day, linking to the NZPF kawa which encompasses the elements of:

  • Manaakitanga; Leading with moral purpose
  • Pono; Having self-belief
  • Ako; Being a learner
  • Awhinatanga; Guiding and supporting

The venue will be the Queenstown Events Centre, which is some distance out of town. For this reason, we are basing the conference social and networking events in town itself, within walking distance of the hotels and restaurants, ensuring that delegates have the opportunity to fully sample what the Queenstown town centre has to offer. A very special afternoon on Wednesday is planned to ensure that you have plenty of opportunity to also experience the delights of the wider area, and have a real opportunity to relax, enjoy yourself and network with your colleagues. We can promise you that these events will be ‘remarkably different’.

The NZPF Executive and Conference Committee feel it is a privilege to host you, and we are eager to make the 2017 NZPF Conference very memorable, both educationally and socially. We hope it will be a truly remarkable and wonderful experience, in a great location, leaving you with a rejuvenated level of well-being.

We are looking forward to warmly welcoming you and hosting you in September next year. Please join us.

Nō reira Tēnā koutou katoa,

Jill Corkin
