Hauora Activities - Thursday 15th September

A range of activities are available to paticipate in that take in the best Christchurch has to offer.  Earlybird delegates will be given access to register for their chosen activity from Monday 11th Apriland activities will then be available to select during the registration process for new delegates from Tuesday 19th April.  
Spaces on some activities are limited and there are also minumum numbers for some activities to run so we enourage you to register for your preferred option as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
For those who want to make their own arrangements during this time, please advise on the form that you do not wish to participate in an activity as this will assist our planning.

 

Adventure Park Hiking
Time: 2.00pm - 4.30pm

Take a trip to Christchurch Adventure Park to enjoy one of their unique walking trails.  The reason they are so unique is that you will see and experience sights and views of Christchurch not seen from any other location.  See and hear zipliners shouting as they fly by overhead and watch out for the mountain bikers as they come whizzing past, the sense of adventure is all around you.  You will be taken by coach from Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre for 90-minutes of trail walking before being returned to your accommodation.

 

Antigua Boatsheds Kayak Hire
Time: 2.00pm - 3.15pm

The Antigua Boat Sheds have been a part of Christchurch’s history for over 130 years, and are classified as a Category 1 Historic Building. Conveniently located on the banks of the Avon River in the heart of the city and within 15 minutes’ walk of Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre, they are home to a traditional and iconic Christchurch pastime that retains all the trappings of Edwardian England, as well as to an excellent café and catering service. On this activity set your course for adventure and embark on an iconic Christchurch boating adventure on the Avon River in a single or double kayak

 

Christchurch Gondola

Time: 2.30pm - 4.30pm

The Christchurch Gondola is situated on the Port Hills of Ōtautahi Christchurch, just 15 minutes from Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre. The Summit Station of the Gondola provides spectacular panoramic 360-degree views from its elevation sitting on Mt Cavendish.
Once at the top you can take a walk along one of the tracks. Also included is the Time Tunnel – a six-minute entertaining ride on an electric cart which takes you back in time through the history of the local area.
Transport will be provided from Te Pae and following an hour at the summit will return you to your accommodation.

 

Christchurch Art Gallery
Time: 2.00pm - 15:30

Join a guided tour of Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū, which is a catalyst for ambitious creativity in Ōtautahi Christchurch, collaborating with artists, and extending the Gallery’s influence beyond its walls.


Craft Beer Tour

Time: 2.00pm - 4.00pm

Run by Cheeky Wine Tours, this tour starts with a pickup from Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre before heading off to experience craft beer tastings at two local breweries along with light snacks before being returned to your accommodation. Cheeky Wine Tours are proud to be certified carbon neutral.

 

 

Forme Spa Treatment (30-minutes)
Various times: 1.40pm - 4.50pm

Just a short walk from Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre, book in for a 30-minute treatment at Forme Spa and choose between a massage, facial or manicure/pedicure.  A limited number of appointments during the afternoon are available to choose from.

 

Mountain Biking
Time: 2.00pm - 3.30pm

Enjoy the mountain bike trails at Christchurch Adventure Park.  With over 40 trails from fun flows to adrenaline fuelled technical descents, our trail network is suitable for every level of rider.  You will be taken by coach from Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre for 90-minutes of riding before being returned to your accommodation.  Rental bikes and protective gear are included.
Please note: This is a self-guided activity, and we recommend riding with other people and within your limits.

 

 

Punting on the Avon
Time: 2.00pm - 3.30pm

Take a 30-minute punt ride on the Ōtākaro Avon River, one of Ōtautahi Christchurch’s iconic attractions since 1986. From the nearby boat sheds, an Edwardian-attired punter will guide you on board a classic punt quietly past trailing willows, woodlands, and the leafy banks of the Botanic Gardens.
Upon completion of the punt ride, guests will be free to make their own way back to their accommodation. 

    

 

Quake City and Canterbury Museum Tour
Time: 2.00pm - 4.00pm

Take a back-to-back tour of the Canterbury Museum and Quake City.  Canterbury Museum is world renowned for its natural and human history collections and has a changing programme of exhibitions and events complementing the permanent displays.
Quake City is a special exhibition packed with interesting displays and interactives. Hear from those who lived through the earthquakes and those who came to help. Learn about the science behind the quakes and with the help of a hands-on interactive understand the phenomenon of liquefaction. Suitable for visitors of all ages.

Riverside Kitchen Masterchef Cook-off
Time: 2.00pm - 4.30pm

Take part in your very own Masterchef competition. Participants will be split into teams and given a recipie and ingredients to make a sharing plate. When the cooking is finished your plates will be judged before everyone gets a chance to taste them all. Dietary requirements are accomomdated. Please note these during the registration process. Upon finishing the activity, participants are free to make their own way back to their accommodation.

 

 

Riverside Market Tour
Time: 2.00pm - 4.30pm

Take a guided tour through Christchurch’s Riverside Market accompanied by the Riverside Kitchen team. Participants will be split into small groups and guided through the market, learning about the market and the tenants. Along the way we will introduce you to some of our favourite characters and taste their products.
Upon finishing the activity, participants are free to make their own way back to their accommodation.

 

Tauti Mai Walking Tour
Time: 2.00pm - 3.45pm

Join this cultural sight seeing tour of Christchurch with your guide, Tauti Mai Principal Lynne Harata Te Aika. Ngāi Tūāhuriri, Ngāi Tahu. The walking tour will have an historical and cultural focus especially in relation to the New Zealand histories curriculum and highlight the bicultural history of Christchurch since the 1700’s. The tour will take in key sites of cultural interest including:

• Victoria Square and the Ngāi Tahu Treaty Story
• Puari Pā site of early Māori settlement
• Te Pae
• The Whāriki manaaki along the Ōtākaro-Avon river
• Oi Manawa- the Earthquake Memorial
• Bridge of Remembrance
• Te Ōmeka-Justice Precinct
• Hine Paaka- Bus Exchange
• Turanga and ending back at Te Pae


The Spirits Workshop Distillery Tour
Time: 2.00pm - 4.00pm

Take a tour of the Distillery Workshop and learn direct from these talented distillers how Whisky and Gin are made, see the stills, soak up the smell of the barrel room and finish with a guided tasting and a bottle of gin to take home.

 

Tram City Tour 
Time: 2.00pm - 3.00pm

The Christchurch Tram offers an opportunity to step back in time to a grand era of transport, offering a unique, elegant and environmentally friendly way to see the city.  Join us for a private one hour tour while enjoying drinks and nibbles.

 

Wine Tasting Tour
Time: 2.00pm - 4.00pm

Waka on Avon
2.15pm - 3.30pm

Experience the excitement of paddling a hand-crafted waka down the River Avon, and learn about the importance of the waka to Māori culture. Enjoy early stories of Canterbury's Ngāi Tahu iwi and the earliest European settlers, and the positive things they achieved building the city of Christchurch together.
